A clear and uncomplicated process.
Whether redesigning your entire garden or just a part, we work step by step through this simple process together.
Stage 1: planting the seed
We begin with a 30 minute conversation to understand more about you, your dream garden, current challenges and constraints. Following this call, I would visit to learn more about your dream garden, and things like the time you have for gardening, the plants you love, where in the garden you want to sit on summer evenings, where your children might want to play, and so on. At this point I discover more about your soil, water, sun, wind, views, and so on.
Next I will produce your 'Garden Design Proposal’, and walk you through it during a follow up call or visit. It describes your hopes and needs, explains the process, shows you images to help imagine the future wonderful garden for you and your family to enjoy for years to come. This plan includes the design service fee quote, and is the first step to creating your garden. Now, I can work on your design.
Stage 2: bringing your garden to life
I will create an ‘Outline Design’ for your new garden, by an agreed upon date. This is a four to five page A3 document for you to keep, which contains (1) a master plan of your new garden, (2) 3D illustrations to bring the design to life, (3) a plant selection sample, and (4) a page for materials and lighting, for instance. We will sit down to review and refine this together, and finalise the design based on your budget. If you want to spread the cost and / or work to build your new garden over time, then we will talk about this too. Once you have agreed to the final design, I will focus on producing detailed drawings for contractors to produce reliable quotes.
Stage 3: finalising the detail
At this stage I produce a set of detailed design drawings so that landscapers and nurseries can provide reliable estimates, and I can secure quotes for items other items in your new garden, as required. With the full cost estimate confirmed, and construction details and timings back from landscapers, we can now finalise your ‘Garden Implementation Plan’.
Stage 4: building your new garden
My role in this stage is about quality control, and helping to make sure any issues that might come up are dealt with to your satisfaction. Having worked for many years as a professional project manager, I know how to make sure that this stage goes as smoothly as possible.
Enjoying your new garden for years to come
Finally, to help you enjoy your garden I will produce a bespoke ‘Garden Maintenance Plan’. Which sets out in a clear format what you need to do to keep your garden looking good all year round. From when to dead head and how to prune, when to mulch, and what plant problems to look out for. The level of detail is up to you, and is based on your preferred approach to gardening.
You can now sit back and enjoy your lovely garden with family and friends, knowing that it will be much loved for years to come.
